Cardiff - Newport

13/09/2018

Cardiff entertain Newport in what will be the 428th meeting between the two great rivals.

The Blue & Blacks will be looking to move on from two disappointing losses at the beginning of the season. That will be a tough challenge against a Black and Amber side that have taken maximum points from their two games so far.

Head Coach Steve Law said of those games ’to go into the 3rd game of the season with nothing to show for the efforts is very disappointing and difficult to explain. We always look to how we perform each week and I was told by many before the Llandovery game that on paper we have a very strong side. Unfortunately the game is played on the pitch, not paper, and last week’s performance against the Drovers lacked the intensity and effort that befits a side representing Cardiff RFC. Games can be lost, but the manner in which they are lost is important, and last week was an embarrassing loss.

This week’s changes reflect that, but we are still depleted in the backline with injuries to James Beal, Morgan Griffiths, Adam Jones, Will Rees-Hole and Steffan Jones.

On a positive note we welcome back Miles Normandale after his long lay-off. And our support of the Cardiff Blues A side continues as Fraser Young and Luke Crocker are both selected in the Cardiff Blues A side that travels to Leinster.
