Harry Morgan Bowcott was born in Cardiff in 1907. A strong centre, he played for Cambridge University, Cardiff, London Welsh and the Lions. During his time at Cardiff, he played 113 matches over eight seasons from 1926 until 1936 scoring 36 tries. In 1929 he made his debut for Wales in the victory over Scotland at Swansea and he went on to captain his country the following year against England at Cardiff Arms Park. He won eight caps in all between 1929 and 1933 and was picked for the Lions tour to New Zealand and Australia in 1930. On the tour he played in 16 of the 21 games in New Zealand, scoring six tries, and four of the five in Australia – he played in all five of the Test matches on the tour.
Harry Bowcott was a member of the Welsh Rugby Union general committee for two decades and was a Welsh selector from 1963 to 1974. In addition, he was assistant manager of the Welsh tour to Argentina in 1968 and was President of the WRU in the 1974 - 75 season.
Harry died in Wenvoe, Vale of Glamorgan in December 2004 aged 97
