Thomas Dobson was born in the small fishing village of Keiss in Caithness, Scotland 1871, but by 1873 his family were living in the Rhondda. By 1890, Dobson had moved to the Docks area of Cardiff and he became a part of the pack for Cardiff. He played 122 games for the club between 1893/94 and 1898/99, scoring 11 tries, before returning to the Rhondda to play for Llwynypia. Although Scottish by birth Tom gained four Welsh caps, making his debut against England in 1898.
Tom Dobson died in Cardiff in 1937 at the age of 66.
