Arnold Robert Rickards was the first of eight children born to Robert and Minnie Rickards.
He played for Pontypool and then moved to play for Cardiff. It was while he was playing for Cardiff that he achieved his finest hour because he was selected to play for Wales against France in Paris on 27th March 1924. Unfortunately, he got injured in the match and was never selected for Wales again although he did continue to play at local level and also played for Gloucester against New Zealand on 25th September 1924.
Rickards was a Policeman stationed in Barry and transferred to Mountain Ash where he was captain of Mountain Ash and also Glamorgan Police.
He died in Mountain Ash on 18th June 1966 shortly before his 65th birthday
