Mel Rosser was born 1901 in Machen and began his rugby career with his local club, before moving to Cardiff where he played two seasons, scoring four tries in 13 games. During the 1923 - 24 season Rosser switched to Penarth and it was whilst he was at Penarth that he gained his two international caps for Wales. During his rugby career he represented Glamorgan County and as a serving Policeman represented the Glamorgan Police.
At the start of 1924 - 25 season Rosser turned to rugby league and joined Leeds, at the same time leaving the police force to become a licensee. His first game for Leeds was in September 1924 and he was selected for the Wales Rugby League side in 1926, going on to gain 5 rugby league caps. After six seasons he left Leeds to join York FC.
He passed away in York September 1988 aged 87.
