Frank "Bucket" Young was born in Cardiff and joined his home town team in 1902 playing mainly for the Athletic XV. Although a promising player his opportunities were limited due to the presence of Bert Winfield in the Cardiff team. In spite of the competition he did manage 18 appearances for the club before signing to play professionally with Leeds Rugby League side in 1906. Over the next five seasons he played 159 times for Leeds and had also represented Wales and Great Britain in the 13 a side game his career being cut short by injury, he retired in 1911.
