Alun Donovan started his senior rugby career with Swansea for whom he played 110 games, before joining Cardiff, for whom he played 166 games between 1983 and 1988. He represented Wales on five occasions, making his debut against Australia in Sydney in June 1978. Alun also represented Wales B, Breconshire, Swansea and Abercrave. In 1988 when he retired from playing, Alun took up coaching with Swansea (1988 – 1991) Cardiff (1992 – 1996) and Bridgend from 1997 – 2000) and was involved with Wales in an advisory role from 2001 – 2006. Whilst studying at St. Pauls College, Cheltenham Alun captained the college First XV to success in the British Colleges cup and also gained representative honours captaining the English Colleges and British Colleges sides. Success followed him to senior level as well and he played in five Welsh Cup Finals with Swansea and Cardiff (winning four), five County Finals with Breconshire (winning three) as well as two Welsh Tours and selection for both Welsh Academicals and Crawshays Welsh XV. In 2015 Swansea appointed him as Hon Fixture Secretary.
