Alec Timms was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1872 and grew up in Geelong where he attended Melbourne Grammar School before transferring to Geelong College (where he captained the School in Australian Rules Football). When he was sent to Edinburgh to study as a doctor, he played rugby for Edinburgh Wanderers and he was selected to represent Scotland, going on to gain 14 caps - he was given the honour of captaining Scotland in his final international against England in 1905. With just one cap to his name he was selected to represent the British Lions on their 1899 tour of Australia.
Timms qualified as a GP and moved to Wales to set up a practice in Cardiff in 1904 joining Cardiff Rugby Club at the same time. He played 17 games for the club between 1903 and 1905 scoring 6 tries.
In May 1922, at the age of just 50 Dr Alec Timms passed away.
