Haydn Morris

We have recently been informed (via the Norfolk RFU) of the death of former player Haydn Morris.
Haydn Morris (born 14th July 1928 in Mountain Ash) joined Cardiff from his home club Mountain Ash, playing on the left wing. Whilst playing for Cardiff, he scored 101 tries in 129 matches over six seasons between 1950 and 1956. In 1951 he made his debut for Wales (versus France at Stade Colombes) and won two more caps in 1955 against Ireland and France, scoring a try in both games, and was selected for the 1955 British Lions tour to South Africa, scoring nine tries in eight appearances.
He was selected for the 1955 British Lions tour to South Africa, scoring nine tries in eight appearances, with a hat trick against Griqualand West. Morris was a former student of Cardiff Training College and whilst playing for Cardiff RFC was sports master and 1st XV coach at Barry Boys’ Grammar School, from 1952 – 1960.
Haydn moved to Norwich in the mid sixties as head of PE at City College, then to UEA as Director of Sport. He coached Norfolk 1st XV for a few years, and also chaired the disciplinary committee.
Our condolences go to his family and friends. A true rugby man in every sense. He will be missed.
