Cardiff RFC are delighted to confirm the second episode of RagsCast 150 has been released, with captain Craig Hudd the latest guest to join host Carwyn Glyn.
Hudd enters his second season as the Blue and Blacks’ captain, and what a start to the club’s sesquicentennial season it has been.
Back-to-back bonus-point victories against Carmarthen Quins and Swansea RFC have put Cardiff in good stead heading into Friday evening’s contest against Pontypool.
But in the latest episode, Hudd sits down with Glyn to discuss his rugby journey, from his early days with Bedwas RFC to making his Cardiff debut as a replacement in a Premiership Cup fixture against Pontypridd in November 2021.
Hudd subsequently joined Newport RFC before making a permanent move to the Blue and Blacks ahead of the 2023/24 season. Since then, he has made 64 appearances for the club, scoring 40 points.
He is now part of a Cardiff side that has claimed regular-season honours in each of the last two seasons in Super Rygbi Cymru, only to suffer semi-final defeats on both occasions.
With another season now underway, Hudd discusses the lessons learnt from those setbacks and Cardiff’s determination to go one step further in what promises to be a special campaign.
“It’s bittersweet because obviously for the last two years we’ve performed the best over the league season,” Hudd said.
“On paper, by the league table finish, we were the best team in the league for the last two years.
“We’ve fallen short in the semi-final twice now against familiar opponents. It’s about looking within and seeing how we can change that and rectify the mistakes we have made to kick on this season.
“It would mean nothing more to me than to lift that trophy in front of hopefully a home crowd if we can secure a home semi-final and final.”
