Cardiff RFC continue their 150th season celebrations by welcoming Swansea RFC to the Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday evening (KO: 18:00).
Dan Fish’s side head into the contest after getting their 2026/27 Super Rygbi Cymru campaign underway with a 27-17 victory over Carmarthen Quins in West Wales.
Speaking on the tough opening encounter at Carmarthen Park, captain Craig Hudd said: “I think we made it hard for ourselves in certain situations in the first-half.
“We were probably overplaying in the wrong areas in not great conditions, so I think our learnings are knowing when we need to press the button and go and others when we need to control the game a bit better.”
Saturday evening’s opponents, Swansea, enter the encounter after a 40-12 defeat to Ebbw Vale. However, the last time they played at the Arms Park, they claimed silverware.
The Whites put aside Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC), 29-13, to claim the SRC Plate, and in November last year they secured a dramatic 24-21 victory over the Blue and Blacks on a damp, cold evening.
Replacement scrum-half Ellis Lewis scored two late tries, sealing Swansea’s hard-fought comeback win at the Arms Park.
For the Blue and Blacks, they’ll be aiming to win their first home game of the season after not doing so last September, following a narrow 36-33 loss to the Quins in Cardiff.
“Every game is important to us and even more so at home,” continued Hudd.
“We want to make the Arms Park a real tough place to come to for any team, and that starts with Swansea this weekend, especially after they beat us with a couple of late tries last year.
“We are expecting a good game from them. They have a solid pack and backs who like to throw the ball around and have a go.
“Hopefully, we get decent weather, and it will be another good game like last year.”
The Blue and Blacks ended their pre-season campaign unbeaten, with victories over St Albans RFC (99-7) and Brixham RFC (59-5).
Cardiff Rugby will look to follow suit as they conclude their pre-season against Exeter Chiefs (KO: 15:00), ahead of the 2026/27 United Rugby Championship season, which gets underway next weekend.
“It’s always great to play a double-header with the senior team, and hopefully a lot of the fans will stay and watch the boys play,” Hudd said.
“It’s a bit different this year with us kicking off after them, but it should be a great occasion nevertheless.”
