Llandovery 20 Cardiff 3

Cardiff came away from Church Bank with exactly what they deserved – nothing following a poor performance against the Drovers.

Last week the Blue & Blacks were disappointed not to win against Merthyr and were looking to bounce back. Playing with the wind in the first half they created very few opportunities. Llandovery had the better of the half with scrum half Lee Rees a real thorn in the visitor’s side. Cardiff did have the first chance of points. Llandovery were caught offside but the penalty attempt got caught on the wind and drifted wide. A few moments later Steffan Jones attempted a long-range effort that again failed to register points.

It was the Drovers who got the scoreboard moving. Working their way down field into the Blue & Black twenty-two the gained a penalty that was shunted into the corner and when the maul was stopped and a scrum awarded the danger wasn’t over. Three offences later and a penalty try and yellow card were awarded. The visitors did though get on the scoreboard just before half time when Jones landed a penalty to send them in 7-3 down.

But that was as good as it got. Former Blue & Black Jack Maynard extended the lead with a penalty before setting up the second try. A lovely pass back inside sending Joe Powell over for a converted try and Maynard had the final say when he added a simple kick after the Blue & Blacks were reduced to fourteen men for the second time in the game.

Cardiff simply didn’t have the answers and will need to re-group before the game next weekend against the Black and Ambers.
