Archie Skym was born in Drefach, Carmarthen and began with his local team, soon moving to play for Tumble. After some impressive performances as a prop he was soon playing for Llanelly before joining Cardiff in 1929. In a six year stay at the Arms Park he played 212 games for the club, scoring 32 tries. Skym also gained 20 international caps for Wales and represented the Barbarians against East Midlands in 1932.
A policeman with the Glamorgan force he was stationed at Whitchurch and played for the both the Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire Police sides.
In 1970 at the age of 63 Archie Skym passed away.
