Gareth Griffiths, born in Penygraig, played for Dinas Powis, London Welsh and Cardiff. Over 11 seasons from 1949 - 50 until 1959 - 60 he played 140 matches for Cardiff scoring 74 tries. Between 1953 and 1957 he gained 12 caps for Wales, his debut coming England in Cardiff.
