Cardiff RFC are delighted to confirm the signing of hooker Ethan Coombes, who joins the Blue and Blacks ahead of the 2026/27 Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC) season.
A Beddau RFC stalwart, Coombes brings a wealth of experience to the club, having made more than 150 appearances for the Mount Pleasant Park side.
The hooker has already made his debut for the club, starting in the Blue and Blacks’ final pre-season fixture against Brixham RFC and marked the occasion with a try in an impressive 59-5 victory.
On Coombes’s signing, Cardiff’s Rugby Manager Iestyn Williams said: “Ethan is a strong and experienced front-row forward, and brings plenty of knowledge and understanding of the game to our squad.
“Having spent time competing at a good level, he knows what is required both physically and mentally, and we’re confident that his experience will prove extremely valuable throughout the season.
“At hooker, Ethan offers a combination of physicality, reliability and leadership, while also bringing a wealth of experience that will complement the younger members of the group.
“His ability to contribute around the park, in the set piece and in the changing room will add another important dimension to our forward pack.
“We believe Ethan will bring a valuable balance of experience and enthusiasm to the squad and will play an important role as we continue to build a strong and competitive group.

Coombes now joins his new teammates as preparations continue for Saturday afternoon’s opening SRC match against Carmarthen Quins at Carmarthen Park (KO: 2:30 pm).
“It feels great to have signed for Cardiff RFC,” Coombes said.
“It’s a massive club with a huge history, so I’m really looking forward to getting started and hopefully contributing to the team. I am really excited for the upcoming season in Super Rygbi Cymru.
“There’s a lot of quality in the league, and I am looking forward to testing myself, hopefully playing regularly and developing my game.
“Most importantly, I’m excited to get stuck in with the boys and hopefully help Cardiff have a successful season.”
Following the Blue and Blacks’ opening contest against the Quins, they will then host Swansea RFC and Pontypool RFC at the Cardiff Arms Park.
Cardiff head into their sesquicentennial season after a successful pre-season campaign, which also included a 99-7 victory over St Albans RFC.
Coombes admitted the opportunity to join the Blue and Blacks in their 150th season makes the move even more special.
“It definitely makes it extra special knowing it’s Cardiff’s 150th season,” added Coombes.
“To be part of such an important year for the club is something I am really proud of, and hopefully we can make it a memorable one.”
