Cardiff RFC begin their 2026/27 Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC) campaign on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Carmarthen Park to face Carmarthen Quins (KO: 14:30).
This opening fixture against Carmarthen marks the beginning of a season to remember for the Blue and Blacks as the club celebrates its 150th season.
The sesquicentennial season gives Cardiff a chance to celebrate its long and distinguished history while also looking ahead as Dan Fish’s side prepares for what should be another competitive SRC season.
The Blue and Blacks head into the fixture against the West Walians after a positive pre-season campaign, scoring 158 points across two matches.
Cardiff began their preparations for the new season with a comfortable 99-7 victory against St Albans RFC at a sun-drenched Cardiff Arms Park.
This came before travelling to Devon to face Brixham RFC, which saw the Blue and Blacks secure a 59-5 victory at Astley Park.
For Saturday afternoon’s hosts, they enter the new season off the back of three victorious pre-season outings.
They began with a 55-12 triumph against Tenby United RFC, then recorded a hard-fought 21-7 victory against Birmingham Moseley, before concluding with an impressive 66-0 win against Llangennech RFC.
With both sides unbeaten in pre-season, Saturday’s encounter promises to be an intriguing head-to-head, as the Blue and Blacks aim to start their 150th season with a strong start in Carmarthen.

Speaking ahead of the fixture against Carmarthen, head coach Dan Fish said: “It’s a tough game first up, but I would much rather play Carmarthen Quins away in the first game of the season than around December time.
“We have had a bitty pre-season but got all hands on deck now and chomping at the bit for Saturday.
“A massive season for the club with it being our 150th season, and we want to make sure we do the jersey proud.
“It’s special every time you wear the blue and black jersey, and we have made sure the boys know that.
“You can expect another season of playing the Cardiff way. We have grown as a squad and been working hard on a few different ways we can have success this season.”
Remember the last meeting at Carmarthen Park?
The last time the Blue and Blacks faced the Quins in Carmarthenshire was in February, and Cardiff fell to a third successive defeat in the SRC Cup.
Thomas Williams opened the scoring in the first half, and Rhodri Lewis added a second-half try, with Gabe McDonald kicking a penalty to secure the Quins a hard-fought 15-7 victory at Carmarthen Park.
But on his 30th appearance as a Blue and Black that afternoon, Evan Rees brilliantly scored his third try of the season, but it wasn’t enough for Cardiff on a freezing cold afternoon in West Wales.
However, before and after that encounter, Cardiff secured two victories against the Quins.
In a fantastic contest in West Wales, the Blue and Blacks secured a much-needed 31-26 win, then in April secured a convincing 50-33 triumph to advance to the play-off semi-finals last season.
