Cardiff RFC can confirm that Charlie Rainbird has signed for the club ahead of the 2026/27 Super Rygbi Cymru season.
Rainbird, who featured in Cardiff’s 99-7 victory against St Albans RFC in pre-season, joins Ethan Lloyd and Sion Davies as head coach Dan Fish’s options at scrum-half.
Speaking on Rainbird signing for the club in its 150th season, Rugby Manager Iestyn Williams said: “Charlie is a player who brings exactly the qualities we’re looking for at scrum-half.
“He’s Sharp around the base, energetic, competitive and willing to keep the game moving.
“He has plenty of room to continue developing, and we’re excited to give him the environment and platform to take the next step in his rugby journey.
“He joins a competitive group of players at Cardiff and will be looking to push for his opportunity, compete for the shirt and make a real impact in Cardiff colours.”
From Penarth, Rainbird attended Hartpury College, has played for Gloucester U18s and was part of Wales D20 training squads in the past.
Now he is looking forward to getting started with the Blue and Blacks ahead of a landmark season for the club, and believes he can make a positive contribution.
The Blue and Blacks get their campaign underway with a trip to face Carmarthen Quins on Saturday afternoon at Carmarthen Park (KO: 14:30), before then hosting Swansea RFC and Pontypool RFC at the Cardiff Arms Park.
“I’m really excited to be on board with such a great bunch this year and looking to add as much value as I can to the team,” Rainbird said.
“I feel I have a lot to give this year and can’t wait to see how we get on going forward.
“The boys and coaches have been quality up to now, so really excited to see what I can bring to the team and hopefully go all the way.”
