Cardiff – Newport team news

Cardiff entertain oldest rivals Newport on Friday in a top of the table clash.

The Black and Ambers are currently one point ahead of the Blue & Blacks in the Indigo Premiership Cup East table and this game will decide who is top going into the weekend.

Both sides had good wins last time out, Newport defeating Pontypridd and Cardiff winning in North Wales. Speaking ahead of the game Head Coach Steve Law said “after a week off it is great to be back to competitive rugby again and especially with such a historic fixture as Cardiff – Newport.

Last time we played we got turned over at Rodney Parade and that left us with a bitter taste in our mouths. We will be looking to put in a performance on Friday night to put that right. Our challenge as ever is to have synergy and continuity with the side we put out on the field with the model we have at Cardiff Rugby.

Alun Lawrence makes his debut for the Blue & Blacks and so far this season we have used 46 players in the 6 games. There are 11 changes from the squad that went to North Wales and this will always be a challenge. We need to keep our energy and the opportunities that changes create will keep us at our best week in week out.

We will be looking to see how we have reacted to the defeat last time we played Newport and this will give us an indicator of how far we have come since then”
