May I on behalf of the committee take this opportunity to wish the Committee, players, coaches, supporters, the staff at the Arms Park, and all their families a Happy New Year.
Cardiff Rugby are delighted to announce the introduction of a groundbreaking new role in Wales – an Emerging Player Programme/Under16s District Lead. The club has appointed Gloucester’s Foundation Phase Manager and former Under 18s head coach Stuart Bradfield who will start this month. His new role with an immediate mandate is to engage with each EPP centre and oversee more than 450 players at Under-15 level. This new role and investment demonstrates Cardiff’s strong commitment to developing its academy and building a successful future.
Congratulations to Tom Bowen, son of former Llanelli player Gareth Bowen who joined the Academy and made his debut for Cardiff RFC this season scoring a hat trick of tries against North Wales side RGC and being called up to the senior squad to make his debut for them.
Congratulations to Alun Rees who was named Supporters Player of the Year for last season. Seen here being presented with his award from sponsor Jane Davies. Best Newcomer of the season went to Luke Pollock.
Cardiff RFC travelled to The CINER GLASS Community Stadium to take on Ebbw Vale RFC. Unfortunately due to their own success had a weakened squad. Dewi Cross and Lucas De La Rua pulled out on the morning of the game and 7 of the squad were involved with Wales U20s or called up to the senior squad. Cardiff went into a 17-0 lead at half time but ended up losing 30-20. Only their second loss of the season. Next up was the double header games with our rivals Newport. Cardiff lost the home game at the Arms Park 20-27 but travelled the following week to Newport and came away with a 36-30 win. This was followed up with a win over Swansea at the Arms Park 32-22.
