Job Title | Cardiff RFC volunteer Strength & Conditioning Coach (aligned to Cardiff Rugby Academy) |
Responsible to | Academy Manager, Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach. |
Responsible for | RFC Playing Programme 2023-24 |
Role Summary | Lead the delivery of high quality and appropriate Strength and Conditioning sessions to the Cardiff RFC squad in alignment with the Academy Manager and Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach instructions and strategy. This will fit the annual plan of delivery in line with the season calendar and supporting Individual development plans and rehab programmes. |

Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities | Assistant Academy and Cardiff RFC Strength and Conditioning Provision
1. Support and deliver principles as led by the Academy Manager and Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach. 2. Align to the training direction, and each individual session, as directed by the Academy Manager and Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach. 4. Prepare session, in conjunction with Rugby Coaches, and apply content which support the wider strategy and Game Plan. 5. Ensure sessions are prompt, high quality, and aligned to game plan and required statistical data in line with academy standards. 6. Ensure high energy, enthusiasm with a strong presentation in sessions. 7. Ensure presentation of the sessions using applicable media (PDF / App / email etc) to the players are prompt, well-presented, professional looking and reflect the high standards expected. 8. Have the ability to make strong, well-informed decisions on player modification as advised by Medical department. 9. Ensure strong player buy-in, session adherence and discipline within strength sessions. 10. Provide strong evidence of Strength/Power/Physical performance progressions for individual players as prescribed by Academy Manager and Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach. 11. Make recommendations to the Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach on player achievements (in line with benchmarking) and link to Academy Talent ID strategy. 12. Ensure personable engagement and empathy towards both player needs and elite standards are maintained in interaction with all players. 13. Ensure actions and behaviours are consistent with a coach in high performance sport, and that players view such actions and behaviours to be respectable and aspirational. |
Planning and Organisation | 1. Be responsible for game day timings and appropriate preparation is made for team performance.
2. Where there are multiple sessions happening concurrently (including RTP), be a deliverer of content and coaching in one of the assigned activities (as directed by academy team staff). 4. Ensure presentation of the sessions using applicable media (PDF / App / email etc) to the players are prompt, well-presented, professional looking and reflect the high standards expected. 5. Ensure facility upkeep and resource allocation is well presented and well maintained. 6. Update any notable performance progressions or statuses acquired through sessions back to Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach. 7. Ensure that any off field workshops and monitoring procedures are supported and factored into the programme where directed |
Additional Performance Objectives | 1. Report to Academy Manager, RFC Head Coach and Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach on progress of players monthly on progression and feed back information into the Cardiff Rugby Statistical Database.
2. Meet Academy Manager and Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach 2 times per season to update performance KPIs of players and feedback on performance. |
PERSON SPECIFICATION | |
Experience | · Minimum 2 years experience within a rugby coaching environment, this experience will have been gained in a practical environment
· Understanding and awareness of the issues faced in a semi professional environment but with a clear awareness of high performance coaching and of the practical, educational, vocational and learning needs of aspiring, elite players. · Experience of setting clear goals, targets, measures and implementing action plans · Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Cardiff RFC / Cardiff Rugby Aligned rugby programme |
Skills & Qualifications –
Desirable |
· University sports science qualification (or working towards) / related discipline or equivalent.
· Excellent IT Skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint or Preview. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills |
Other | · Valid UK driving licence is required.
