Dear Supporter
Cardiff RFC have won three games in the opening 6 weeks of the season against RGC1404, Newport in the first round of the cup and against Neath.
We asked Director of Coaching Gruff Rees his thoughts on how this season had started for the Blue & Blacks.
He replied it’s been a little bit inconsistent at times as squad depth has been a big problem for us as we have had a lot of injuries which haven’t helped us.
Gruff was looking forward to seeing the end of October as the RFC start November with a weekend off which will give some players more recovery time.
Gruff’s aspirations for the season: We want to be playing the best possible rugby and I think as time goes on and we get more wins under our belts I don’t see why we can’t get top four and do well in the cup.
Winger Jason Harries made a return to action against Neath on 14th October after being sidelined with a shoulder injury which required surgery.
He said, “it was good to be back out on the field again on Saturday after my shoulder operation at the end of last season”. The rehab and recovery took longer than expected.
Jason was asked what player you admired when growing up, he replied “Jonah Lomu”.
Skipper Morgan Allen reached the milestone of 100 appearances for the club against Neath after not being able to play in the previous game at Llandovery.
Gruff said, “I’ve known Morgan from my days at the Ospreys with him. He is full of experience and can’t believe he is still playing at this level which reflects what sort of player he is”. He is a great leader.
To top off the celebrations the Blue & Blacks’ supporters awarded his try against Neath try of the match, a nice touch as it was a huge day for the number 8.
