As many will have already heard, the club has been saddened by the news that Meirion Roberts, a former Club Captain, passed away on Monday at the age of 90.
Meirion had a very distinguished Rugby Career with Cardiff, Wales and the Barbarians. He played for the Welsh Secondary Schools in 1953 and had a spell at London Welsh before joining Cardiff where he played 225 games at centre for the 1st XV between 1958-66 scoring 58 tries.
Captain of the Club in the 1964 –’65 season and he played for against the Springboks in 1960 and the All Blacks in 1963.
Winning his first cap against the Springboks in 1960, he gained 8 Welsh Caps in total and he was also a member of the winning Barbarian Team against the previously unbeaten South African team in 1961.
After his playing days he coached Cardiff Medicals RFC for over 20 years.
A tremendous player and a true gentleman off the field, Meirion made many life- long friends during his time at the Club and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
