Cenydd Williams (1938-2025)

All at the club will be saddened to hear that Cenydd Williams, the last of the famous Williams Brothers, passed away last Saturday 22nd March 2025 aged 86.

Cenydd was the sixth of the eight brothers who all played for Cardiff between 1934 –1973.

He played 115 games for the Club between 1956 –’63 at centre scoring 20 tries.

In 1961 he represented the Barbarians before going North and signing for St. Helens in 1963 where he played until 1969 when he was forced to retire due to a knee injury.

Two of the brothers, Bleddyn and Lloyd,  captained Wales whilst four, Cenydd, Bleddyn, Lloyd and Tony played for the Barbarians.

The eight brothers all playing for Cardiff is quite a remarkable story which is acknowledged throughout the rugby world and is unlikely ever to be matched.

After his playing days, Cenydd joined the Former Players Association and remained a member ever since. However, living in St. Helens limited his attendance at events.

We send our sincere condolences to his wife Jean and Kevin his son and all the  family at this very sad time.
