On Saturday over a dozen children mainly aged from 3-5 met at Lisvane Memorial Hall for the first session of the Blue and Black Pirates. The sessions are aimed at introducing children not already associated with any local club to the joys of rugby. Led by former player Bobby Newman (assisted by Chris Collins, Jock Morgan and Darren Donovan) the children spent an enjoyable and varied couple of hours being introduced to the game (with plenty of running, jumping and ball handling being enjoyed). The morning ended with the presentation of certificates to all the children by special guest Morgan Allen, captain of Cardiff RFC.
Maybe we witnessed the beginning of a path that will unveil Cardiff stars of the future, but the important thing is that the children enjoy themselves and if they are still playing rugby in 20-30 years time they are still enjoying, it whether it is at the Arms Park or at a local field.
Parents of the children that attended will be contacted with details of the next event. If you want to know more about future plans then contact the club.
