Captain’s Corner: Sean Moore Previews Wales U20s Meeting

For the first time in 2026, Cardiff RFC will play their first match this evening as they host Wales U20s at Cardiff Arms Park (KO: 19:30).

This will be the Blue and Blacks first outing since late December, when they put aside Bridgend Ravens 33-10 at the Electric Brewery Field.

Head coach Richard Whiffin has included several Cardiff RFC/Rugby representatives across both halves this evening.

Steffan Emanuel who scored against the Ravens last timeout captains the U20’s, and he is joined in the centre by Osian Darwin-Lewis.

Both Sion Davies and Lloyd Lucas are the halfback pairing for the first 40 minutes, then there is further Cardiff involvement in the second half, with hooker Tom Howe, who made his Cardiff RFC debut against Bridgend prior to Christmas.

Gabe Williams, Bailey Cutts, Joseff Jones and Rhys Cummings are all named in the second-half back line

“It will be good to play against some of the boys tonight after playing with some of them for almost two seasons,” said Moore.

“It will be interesting for our backs in the first half especially as the 9,10,12,13 are usually playing for us. So I imagine that will be a good battle.

This contest takes place eight days before a huge Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC) rescheduled match against Ebbw Vale (KO: 16:25) at the Arms Park next week for Dan Fish’s side.

“We haven’t played in two weeks so it’s going to be a well needed run out before going into the game against Ebbw Vale next week,” he continued.

“Obviously being the more experienced team we need to bring that physicality to give the U20s a measure of where they are as a team.

“But for us we need to set our marker for where we need to be to play against Ebbw Vale next week as they are one of the toughest teams to play against in the SRC.

“We owe ourselves a performance after the result that we had up there at the start of the season.”

For those unable to make it to the Cardiff Arms Park this evening, you can stay up-to-date with live updates across all Cardiff RFC social media channels (X, Facebook, and Instagram).
