Cardiff 31 – RGC 34

Cardiff gained another 2 points in the Super Rygbi Cymru Cup but came out on the wrong side of the result against RGC.

The game was very much end to end in the first twenty minutes as both sides looked to play. RGC were first on the scoreboard as the backline found some space. It was though hooker Rhodri King who claimed the game’s first try, scoring out-wide from a long pass. . Cardiff though were soon level with another hooker scoring, this time though in a more conventional move as the Blue & Black pack powered Charlie Manship over from a short lineout. And the home side went ahead when a beautifully timed pass from Osian Darwin-Lewis allowed wing Olly Das to score a try that Josh Thomas concerted.

The try scoring didn’t let up. RGC claimed their second when King went over from a lineout close to the Cardiff line and they grabbed a third when Danny Cross went o ver. McBride added the extras to the Cross try to put RGC back in front.

Back came the Blue & Blacks, Manship again at the back of a driving maul to drop over the line to level the scores before McBride landed a penalty on half time to push RGC back ahead.

Half time Cardiff 17 – RGC 20

The second half was as open as the first. Pedr Jones went over from close range before Cardiff came back into the game with their bonus point try. This time replacement hooker Gavin Parry the hooker to score, Thomas converted. The game then swung RGC’s way. A series of scrum infringements gave them field advantage and from a penalty they were able to send Afon Bagshaw over for a converted try and a 10 point lead.

With Cardiff trying hard to get back into the game the visitors defended hard and claimed several turnovers at crucial points. With clock in the red the Blue & Blacks did manage to get their fifth try, Benji Williams going over. Thomas converted but with no time left all the Blue & Blacks had to show for their efforts were two bonus points.
