Cardiff 49 Neath 28

A comprehensive win sees the Blue and Blacks back to winning ways ( Report by Harry Tovey)

Cardiff ran riot securing a bonus point win in the first half with Hooker Alun Rees scoring a hat-trick against a spirited Neath team.

Dewi Cross got the Blue and Blacks up and running scoring his fourth try of the season, using some impressive footballing skills. However, young prospect Harri Wilde went off injured just minutes in and was replaced by another young exciting player Harrison James.

Centurion Morgan Allen scored his 31st try in a Blue and Black shirt after powering his way over the Welsh All Blacks Line. It didn’t take that long for the visitors to get up and running as outside centre Ryan Griffiths crossed the line.

Later in the first half Griffiths’s opposite number Luke Pollock crossed the line after breaking the Neath defence to make it three tries for the Blue and Blacks.

Cardiff ended the first half on the front foot with 30 year old Alun Rees scoring and securing the bonus point for the home team.

The second half couldn’t have started any better for Cardiff as referee Ben Connor awarded the home team a penalty try after ill discipline from Neath’s forwards. Alun Rees then went onto score his second of the afternoon after a powerful driving maul from the Blue and Blacks pack.

Minutes after scoring his second of the afternoon, Rees from a driving maul crossed the Neath line to get his third and Cardiff’s seventh of the afternoon.

Replacement Thomas John got the visitors second try of the afternoon. After that the visitors began to grow in confidence as they moved up the field and finished the game on the front foot as Prop Jack Powell crossed the line.

Young, flyhalf Harrison James has now scored over 70 points this season for the Blue and Blacks and finished the game 100% from the tee.

However it wasn’t the ending that James would’ve wanted as he attempted to intercept the ball and accidentally knocked it on inside Cardiff 22.

Referee Ben Connor therefore yellow carded James and awarded the visitors a penalty try and this meant they left the Cardiff Arms Park with a losing bonus point.

It was a momentous day for Brynley Toms as he came on and played his 50th game for the Blue and Blacks.

Next, up for the Blue and Blacks is an away trip to Bridgend.
