Former Cardiff coach Chris Padfield has passed away.

The club have received the very sad news that Chris Padfield , a former coach at the Club, passed away on Tuesday morning (June 10th) in the Grange Hospital, Cwmbran, aged 84.

Chris had been unwell in recent months but his passing was sudden following a recent fall. A true gentleman and a hugely popular figure in Welsh Rugby he played at hooker for the Welsh Secondary Schools, St. Lukes College Exeter, Newbridge and Ebbw Vale.

After his playing days he went into coaching and amongst others, he coached Newbridge, Ebbw Vale and Cardiff. He was a member of the coaching team at Cardiff when they  beat Australia in November 1975. Chris changed his career from teaching to become one of the first Rugby Development Officers for the WRU.

He was always a very active supporter of the Former Players Association and regularly attended the Breakfasts and other Functions. He was at the recent Former Players Dinner in February this year which celebrated the famous win over Australia. He was a lovely man who will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

Chris was married twice but sadly Yvonne and Avril have both passed away.

We send our sincere condolences to his two children, David and Ellie and his four grandchildren.

I will circulate the funeral details as soon as they are announced.
