Cardiff beat Llanelli with a record score at Parc-Y-Scarlets
The first half started really well for Cardiff and they were a score up after four minutes. Llanelli spilt the ball and the Blue & Blacks shifted the ball wide quickly allowing an over lap for James Beal. The winger made metres before stepping inside and popping the ball inside to Ellis Bevan. A couple of minutes later and Beal himself was on the score sheet. Another spilt ball allowed the visitors to kick the ball behind. Beal gathered Cameron Winnett’s clever pass and went under the posts. Harrison James converted.
The third try came five minutes later. Cardiff were camped in the Llanelli half and when the Llanelli lost a lineout five metres out Nathan Hudd was on hand to plough over after several pick and drives. James again on target with the conversion. And he was on target with a penalty as the clock reached the 20th minute. Llanelli grabbed a try after a period of possession – Jac Price going over.
Cardiff though were to score their bonus point try on the stroke of half time. A scrum penalty was pushed to the corner and when the maul was sacked the ball went into mid-field. A few pick and drives later and Marc Thomas went over under the posts.
Llanelli were fastest out of the blocks in the second half and got on the board with a try by Luca Gianini. But Cardiff were in the mood and from a lineout in the Llanelli twenty-two Dewi Cross scrambled over, James again on target with the extras. And when Bevan shot through a hole in the home defence it was only a matter of who would score, Ellis Thomas powering over. Llanelli replied shortly after when Jac Davies went over in the corner. Dewi Cross grabbed a brace when a lineout was pulled down short of the line. A cross-fleld kick from James was collected by Cross who dotted down. James converted from wide out. His hat-trick came following a flowing move with the final play of the game.
