Mervyn John

Mervyn John was inducted into the Cardiff RFC Hall of Fame at the 140th Anniversary Dinner in 2018

Mervyn John was an outstanding flanker and played 319 games for Cardiff between 1968 and 1979 scoring 86 tries. Starting his career with a season with Senghenydd and a couple of games for Bridgend he joined Cardiff making his first team bow against Harlequins on Easter Monday 1968. Although he played for Glamorgan U23’s, Mervyn was unfortunate not to gain international recognition being of the same era as Welsh greats Dai Morris and John Taylor.
After his playing days Mervyn continued to serve the club as committeeman, Chairman and Non-Executive Director, he was also a Trustee of Cardiff Athletic Club.
