Outside half Cliff Ashton was born in Cwmavon 1932, and attended Cwmavon Junior school. He played for Chepstow, Cwmavon, Aberavon, Neath, Cardiff, Newport and Crawshays Welsh XV. While at Aberavon Cliff made his international debut against England and was capped 7 times by Wales between 1959 and 1962, scoring a try against Ireland in 1959.
