Olly Cracknell was born in Leeds and educated at Leeds Grammar School. He was part of the Leeds Carnegie Academy when he toured South Africa in 2012 with the School and in 2013 he spent a season with the Border Blues and played for the Currie Cup outfit's U19s.
On his return to the UK he was invited to play for RGC1404 in North Wales and made his Welsh U20s debut against Scotland. He played one game for Cardiff against Pontypridd on 19th April 2014. Olly subsequently signed a contract with the Ospreys and was placed at Bridgend before becoming a regular in the Ospreys team.
