RIP – John O’Shea

We have heard the very sad news from Australia that former player John O’Shea passed away this morning age 83 after a long battle with cancer.

John played prop at the Club between 1963 –’70 making 213 appearances for the 1st XV , scoring 19tries and was the Club Captain in the 1969-1970 season.

He had a very distinguished rugby career, gaining 5 caps for Wales making his debut against Scotland in 1967 and was selected for the 1968 British Lions Tour to South Africa where he played 8 games including the 1st test match.

John also represented East Wales, Wales under 23’s, Wales Schools, Crawshays and the Barbarians.

A great character, John was a very popular and respected member of the Club where he made many life-long friends and he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

We send our sincere condolences to his wife Marlene and his son Richard at this very sad time.
