After the statement released and all the messages received and comments on social media, I feel the need to respond. Firstly, I would like to thank Cardiff RFC and Cardiff Rugby for the opportunity to work at what is arguably the biggest club in Welsh rugby.
In the 6 seasons at the club this season included I have met and worked with a lot of good people the supporters and officials are a credit to the RFC and been there through the good and the hard times from week to week. Thank you for your support and patience over this period.
Now to the on-field staff, I have received a lot of accolades lately for what has been achieved since I accepted the position at Cardiff but a big percentage of this should go to everyone from the medical staff, analysts department, SC coaches, my ever-present team manager who as been with me over the whole period thank you Iestyn and all the rugby coaches over the 6 seasons. Llyr Lane, James Dixon, Neil Edwards, Rhys Thomas, Gethin Jenkins, Scott Andrews, Ian Evans, Dan Fish, Craig Everett, Gruff Rees and Duane Goodfield.
Its as much a team sport off the field as it is on the field and as you can see the names above speak for themself every one has contributed to the upturn and success of the RFC.
The 80-minute game is what it is all about and here we get to the players who ultimately, with their different talents, bought into the standards and work ethic needed to be successful. There are too many to mention individually, but thank you all.
I can honestly say that this season has probably been one of the most challenging of my career, mainly through the lack of numbers in the squad. We have 2 games left. If we can manage to win these 2 games we would achieve fourth place in the league and give us a crack at the play offs which will be a hell of an achievement for this current group of players and coaches.
I would like to make it clear to everyone that I did not step down as head coach of Cardiff RFC as reported in the press. I have been released by Cardiff Rugby.
Anyway, back to what’s important. My thanks to everyone especially the friends I have made over the years. I am sure with the foundation now in place and the squad being strengthened for next season Cardiff RFC can go from strength to strength and be a leader in whatever level of Welsh rugby they take part in.
