Captain’s Corner: Craig Hudd Previews RGC meeting

Cardiff RFC entertain Rygbi Gogledd Cymru 1404 at the Cardiff Arms Park tomorrow afternoon, as the Blue and Blacks aim to bounce back.

This comes after a disappointing last outing against Swansea RFC on a damp and cold evening in the Welsh capital. In the space of minutes replacement scrum half Ellis Lewis scored twice to secure the victory 24-21.

A brace from Alun Rees accompanied by a cross from Ethan Lloyd and six points from the tee by Steff Crimp, proved not to be enough as Cardiff fell to their second home defeat of the season.

“Last week I thought we were really good in patches and not so good in others,” began Craig Hudd who captained the Blue and Blacks for the first time this season at the Arms Park.

“We started a bit slow, but took control of the game towards the end of the half.

“Second half was a bit of an arm wrestle, and I think we played too much in the wrong areas and didn’t finish well, and control the game as we should have done.

“Feels like a result we let slip away.

“The messages this week are similar to last week, in terms of that we always want to play on the front foot and make the Arms Park a difficult place for teams to come as it has been for the last few years.

“I think we haven’t solidified that enough this year and we need to really make it a fortress.”

Saturday will be the fourth meeting of 2025 between Cardiff and RGC. The Gogs enter the contest off the back of a 38-26 defeat in Colwyn Bay.

The pair last met in February where the Blue and Blacks ran out 34-26 victors with Alun Rees, Lucas de la Rua, Ethan Lloyd, Jason Harries, and Joe Goodchild all scoring.

“RGC are a good well drilled outfit, they can cause you problems from anywhere on the pitch,” Hudd added.

“We’re expecting a tough match against them similar to the last few seasons.

“It would mean a lot to get back to winning ways as we know we have a real important block of fixtures against some good teams.

“It would also mean a lot to me as so far I haven’t won a game since returning for injury and I’m looking to changing that this weekend.”
