Captain’s Corner: Craig Hudd Previews Ebbw Vale RFC Meeting

Cardiff RFC entertain top-of-the-league Ebbw Vale tomorrow afternoon at the Cardiff Arms Park (16:25).

The Blue and Blacks come into the contest aiming to record their fourth consecutive Super Rygbi Cymru win, despite suffering a 21-14 loss in a friendly against Wales U20s last Friday.

Speaking ahead of the match, captain Craig Hudd said: “Ebbw are a strong team, and that’s clearly reflected in the league table where they are deservedly top.

“They bring a physical game and have a clear game plan. We know it’s going to be a tough challenge, but one we are relishing.

The pair last met in the league back in September at the CiNER GLASS Community Stadium. That day, Cardiff fell to a 60-20 loss.

Winger Joe Goodchild, on his 72nd appearance for the club, bagged himself a brace with brilliant crosses in the corner.

Hooker Gavin Parry scored his second of the season with outside-half, Lloyd Lucas kicking five points from the tee, but it proved insufficient.

This was due to Ieuan Morris claiming a hat-trick, with scores from Ethan Phillips, Joe Franchi, Morgan Richards, Ewan Bowden, Sion Parry, and a penalty try, saw Ebbw Vale claim the spoils.

On wanting to change the wrongs to rights from that afternoon over three months ago, Hudd added: “Definitely, I was injured at the start of the year, so I wasn’t involved in the game, but I was there running water and messages on.

“We were at our worst that day, and we are looking to right a few wrongs this week.”

The meeting against the Steelmen is part of yet another double-header in the Welsh capital.

Cardiff Rugby, following the Blue and Blacks’ clash, face Benetton Rugby in an intriguing BKT United Rugby Championship encounter (KO: 19:45).

“We always enjoy playing in the double-headers, bigger crowds and bigger occasions, and we have a good record in them, so hopefully that continues this week,” concluded Hudd.

For those unable to make it to the Cardiff Arms Park tomorrow afternoon, you can stay up-to-date with live updates across all Cardiff RFC social media channels (X, Facebook, and Instagram).
