Aberavon RFC – Cardiff RFC Team News

Cardiff RFC return to Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC) action this Saturday as they head to the Talbot Athletic Ground to face Aberavon RFC in a rescheduled fixture (KO: 2:30 pm).

The Blue and Blacks enter the contest following four successive losses in the SRC Cup, but in their most recent league contest, they put aside top-of-the-league Ebbw Vale, 37-19.

On that afternoon in late January, Cardiff crossed the Steelmen’s whitewash on six occasions. Alun Rees, Evan Rees, Dewi Cross, Joe Goodchild, and Gwilym Bradley all scored, with Harri Wilde also scoring and kicking a further seven points from the tee.

For Saturday afternoon’s hosts, they enter the encounter off the back of also recording four losses in the SRC Cup. These came against Swansea, Ebbw Vale, Llandovery, and Bridgend Ravens, and with that, the Wizards have not recorded a triumph since last October against Pontypool.

Cardiff met the Talbot Athletic Ground side seven days earlier, before their last victory, and put them aside in a thrilling contest which finished 45-26 at the Cardiff Arms Park.

Pre-Match Thoughts:

Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Dan Fish said: “After a promising Cup competition, our attention turns back to the league.

“I know results didn’t go our way in the Cup, but players got valuable game time and learning opportunities.

“We have focused on ourselves this week and making sure we are in a good place come 2:30 Saturday.

“We have trained well leading into this game, and we know what our game plan is going to be against Aberavon.

“It’s important for us to make sure we put in a performance that we are proud of, and we know if we can manage that, we are a tough team to play against.”

Remember the last meeting at the Talbot Athletic Ground?

The last time the Blue and Blacks travelled to face the Wizards, they kept their SRC playoff hopes alive with a convincing 44-22 victory.

Following an early penalty try, Matty Young and Joe Goodchild both claimed braces whilst Joe Williams and Nathan Hudd also scored. Harri Wilde slotted seven points from tee, as Cardiff secured their third consecutive win on the bounce.
