Cardiff RFC – Carmarthen Quins Team News

Cardiff RFC will go head-to-head with Carmarthen Quins at the Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday afternoon, with a place in the playoff Super Rygbi Cymru semi-finals on the line (KO 2.30 pm).

The regular season champions come into the contest after a remarkable nine-game unbeaten run to conclude the regular campaign on the front foot.

The Blue and Blacks come into the contest after claiming a six-point bonus-point 36-19 victory against Swansea RFC, at Broadacre, Dunvant.

A brace from Rhys Cummings on his first start of 2026 was accompanied by scores from Ioan Emanuel, Alun Rees, Dewi Cross, and Jason Harries, securing the triumph against the Whites.

For the Quins, unlike Cardiff, who had last weekend off, contested in a Wildcard playoff against Pontypool RFC at Carmarthen Park.

In what was a dramatic ending, which saw outside-centre Jac Howells cross when the clock was in the red, which guided the Quins to a narrow victory, 25-21, to book themselves a trip to the Welsh capital.

Pre-Match Thoughts:

Speaking ahead of the encounter, head coach Dan Fish said: “After a strong finish in the league, we head into the play-offs on the back of some very good performances.

“We know what happened earlier in the season when we played Quins at home, and know what to expect from them.

“We have prepared well on what to execute come Saturday afternoon.”

Remember the last meeting at the Arms Park?

The last time the pair met in Cardiff was the Blue and Blacks’ first home game of the 2025/26 SRC season. The fixture came following Fish’s side recording a hard-fought bonus-point win against Rygbi Gogledd Cymru 1404.

However, Cardiff suffered a heartbreaking 36-33 defeat, as Carmarthen snatched the win with the last kick of the match, thanks to the boot of Ellis Price after being awarded a penalty.

Despite the brutal result, Dewi Cross scored twice, as he was accompanied by Tom Cottle and Gavin Parry, who also crossed the whitewash with Lloyd Lucas kicking eight points from the tee.

The pair have met twice more in the regular season, both at Carmarthen Park. The fixture in December kick-started the Blue and Blacks’ unbeaten run in the league, whilst they suffered a narrow 15-7 loss in the SRC Cup in February.
