Cardiff RFC are delighted to confirm the signing of Sonny Greenman ahead of the 2026/27 Super Rygbi Cymru season.
Greenman joins from England’s National League Two West side Cinderford RFC, but has also attended Hartpury College, where he played BUCS Super Rugby, and is a product of Pentyrch RFC.
Speaking on signing the versatile backline player, Cardiff head coach Dan Fish said: “Sonny has been a great addition to the squad and has settled in really well.
“He is a good player that is very comfortable on the ball and a big running threat.
“He fits the Cardiff mould perfectly and has the ability to play at 15 and 10.
“It will be great to see Sonny showcasing his talent at the Arms Park this season.”
The exciting playmaker joins the Blue and Blacks at a momentous time for the club, with the new season set to mark a landmark 150 years of rugby.
With his return to Wales and the opportunity to represent his home-town club making the move all the more special, Greenman is relishing the chance to pull on the famous blue and black jersey.
“I am very excited, it’s a great opportunity to be back in Wales after a long time away and it’s class to sign for my home town where I played my first representative rugby,” added Greenman
“It’s a massive year for the club so it’s a special time to be joining.
“The coaches have emphasised the importance of doing everything we can to be successful this year to give not only the players, but the whole club something to celebrate with it being the 150th.”
Since the start of Super Rygbi Cymru (SRC), the Blue and Blacks have managed to expertly secure back-to-back regular-season titles, an achievement which will undoubtedly be on the minds of all those involved this season.
Greenman will likely get his first taste of SRC action when Cardiff head to West Wales to face Carmarthen Quins (September 12), and this follows two pre-season friendlies against St Albans and Brixham RFC this month.
“I feel like from what I have seen of the league the standard of every team is very high, which excites me as every game will be a different challenge,” Greenman said.
“I would say my goals for this season would just be to keep learning and developing as a player and also representing the club as much as I can.
“I understand the level of competition there’s going to be at the club and I look forward to it.”
