Cardiff RFC can confirm that Louis Fletcher will join the club as the third summer signing ahead of the new Super Rygbi Cymru season.
Fletcher has represented Wales U20s, Swansea University in BUCS Super Rugby, and has played for both Aberavon Rugby Club and Swansea RFC.
The versatile prop will be a valuable addition to the Blue and Blacks for the new season, having already shown great strength and intelligence at both loose-head and tight-head in his young playing career so far.
Speaking on signing Fletcher, Cardiff’s Rugby Manager Iestyn Williams said: “Louis is a player we’re really pleased to have brought into the squad.
“He’s a versatile front-rower who can operate effectively on both sides of the scrum, and that gives us some really valuable flexibility heading into the new season.
“He’s still a young player, but he’s already gained experience at a good level with Wales U20s, Swansea University, Aberavon and Swansea RFC.
“He’s got a lot of the attributes we look for in our front-rowers, particularly his strength, work ethic and understanding of the game.
“Having had a year away from rugby, Louis is hungry to get back playing, and we’ve already seen that enthusiasm during pre-season.
“We’re looking forward to helping him develop further and seeing what he can bring to Cardiff.”
Fletcher joins the Blue and Blacks after the club recorded an impressive 2025/26 SRC campaign, which saw us claim regular season honours once again.
His move to the Arms Park side comes as he looks to build on his experience and make his mark at his new club ahead of the upcoming campaign.
He joins an already stacked and impressive front-row group available to Fish for the new season, adding further depth and competition to the squad.
After a year away from the game, Fletcher is excited to get back onto the pitch and get started with the Blue and Blacks.
“I’ve been very excited to return to rugby after having a year out; I’ve missed it a lot,” Fletcher admitted.
“I’m very happy at Cardiff as well and enjoying pre-season.
“They are playing a much more attacking game compared to other SRC sides, which I’m liking and looking forward to seeing it against other teams.
“I’m most excited to take my rugby seriously again and get back to pushing myself to get the best performances for the team.
“Obviously it’s always going to be fun to go up against my previous clubs of Swansea and Aberavon as well.”
The Blue and Blacks begin their pre-season campaign by welcoming St Albans to the Arms Park on Saturday afternoon (KO: 14:30), before then travelling to Astley Park to face Brixham RFC, which will be the first contest outside of Wales for Cardiff since facing Rosslyn Park in 2015.
Following their trip to Devon, Cardiff’s focus will turn firmly onto their opening SRC encounter against Carmarthen Quins on September 12, which will be the first competitive match of the club’s 150th year.
On playing his part in the club’s sesquicentennial season, Fletcher added: “I’ve been lucky enough to be signed for the 150th season, which I think just emphasises the club’s history.
“It highlights that you’re playing for more than just yourself and teammates, but also the fans and their families who have supported the club all along.
“So I’m really happy as it’s given me an insight into the importance of this club locally as an outsider.”
