Captain’s Corner: Craig Hudd Previews Carmarthen Quins Meeting

Cardiff RFC this evening (KO: 19:30) will be looking for their first win since putting aside Llandovery RFC as they head to Carmarthen Park.

The Blue and Blacks face a Carmarthen Quins side who sit one place and point above them in the Super Rygbi Cymru table.

Cardiff head to West Wales on the back of three losses against Newport, Swansea and Rygbi Gogledd Cymru 1404. The encounter against RGC was a tightly contested affair with a nail-biting finish.

“Yeah, it’s been a tough couple of weeks coming on the wrong side of tight games,” said Cardiff RFC captain Craig Hudd.

“As a group, we are disappointed not to have been able to get those results over the line.

“I think we weren’t clinical enough with possession and probably conceded too cheaply when RGC had the ball.

“Take nothing away from them, they defended well, and when the pressure came on at the end, they fronted up.”

Tonight’s game sees Harri Wilde make his Cardiff RFC return for the first time since the contest against RGC in Colwyn Bay.

The outside-half alongside Ioan Emmanuel, Ieuan Davies, Elijah Evans, and Matty Young all come into the game at Carmarthen Park off the back of facing Stade Français in the EPCR Challenge Cup at the Stade Jean-Bouin.

“It’s great to have the younger boys back involved with us, especially after strong performances out in Paris.”

The last time the Blue and Blacks tasted victory in Carmarthen was in March 2024.

Alun Rees and Evan Rees scored alongside former Blue and Blacks Morgan Allen, scoring with Harrison James adding nine points from the tee.

However, in the pair’s last meeting at the Arms Park, it finished 36-33 in favour of the Quins with Ellis Price slotting a penalty with the clock in the red.

“It’s going to be a tough fixture down in Carmarthen on Thursday night in what looks like it’s going to be difficult weather,” added Hudd.

“We know we are going to have to front up physically in order to be on the right side of the result.

“Carmarthen are going really well in the league this year and have already beaten us at home this year.

“So, we know what they are capable of, and we are looking forward to getting back out there in a tough challenge and hopefully get us back on track.”
