Cardiff 42 Pontypridd 10

Cardiff secured the bonus point they were looking for as they ran in six tries against Pontypridd at the Arms Park.

Ponty had the first chance of the game after a few minutes, but Dale Stuckey was wide with his penalty attempt. It was Cardiff who got the scoreboard moving first, however. A lineout near the visitor’s line was stopped but when the ball was recycled and moved out Dan Fish put Harrison James through for a try that he converted himself. Stuckey landed a penalty shortly after, but Cardiff were in attack mode from that point on and when James was hauled down five metres out the Ponty defence was all over the place. When the ball came out of the ruck Fish just had to hand the ball to Morgan Allen who walked over from three metres out. Moments later a cross field chip was charged down and Cardiff had their third try, James the man to gather and score.

Ponty got their only try of the game from a Cardiff mistake. Stuckey intercepted a wide pass and raced under the post. Cardiff immediately went down the other end looking for the bonus point try, but excellent defence by Ponty saw them only trailing by 11 at halftime.

The visitors made a bright start to the second half but Cardiff were up to the challenge and defended several attacks before the fourth try. Jason Harries and Jamie Hill combined down the blind side from a scrum deep in the Blue & Black half. James continued the move and Harri Millard was on hand to crash over in the corner, Jack Maynard converted from wide out.

Try number five came from a weapon that has become a source of points this season, the driving lineout. Evan Yardley found his target following a penalty that was fired into the corner, the hooker joined the back of the maul along with several of the backs and was shunted over the line.

Millard was to get the final score of the game, Ethan Lloyd linking up with Fish before sending the centre over. Ponty still had the desire to get something out of the game but Cameron Winnett had other ideas, the fullback twice overhauling Ponty players as they broke through and looked certain to score. In the end though it was job done and the Blue & Blacks now know that a bonus point win against Merthyr in two weeks time will bring home the title.
