Cardiff ran in nine tries against Ebbw Vale as they took a step onto the top of the Indigo Premiership.
Ebbw Vale had started brightly and were 3-0 up within a few minutes following a penalty by Ross Jones. Jacob Beetham replied in kind five minutes later before a yellow card reduced the Steelmen to 14. The Blue & blacks took immediate advantage and from a lineout close to the Ebbw line rumbled Nathan Hudd over for a try, Beetham converted.
Ebbw seemed to lose the plot slightly after that and some aimless kicking allowed the Blue & Black to gain to ball. Following a turnover Dan Fish chipped the ball into the Steelmen’s twenty-two where Theo Cabango gladly grabbed the ball and sprinted over. A few minutes later and Cabango was in the thick of it again, this time as he attempted to gather a kick through close to the line he was taken out early and referee Aled Evans consulted with the TMO and awarded a penalty try.
Ebbw were not put off by the two quick tries and scored one of their own just before half time, Alex Howe crossing to leave the half time score 22-8 in the home side’s favour.
The second half belonged to Cardiff. Ethan Lloyd – having scored his first try in Blue & Black last week added another to his account this week when he was on hand to round off a move that went through almost all the backs hands. The forwards though were not to be outdone. A couple of penalties got the Blue and Blacks close to the Ebbw line and the catch and drive came up trumps and Alun Rees burrowed over.
Rees was to get a second again from a lineout move this time after Dan Fish had given the Blue & Black field position with a 50-22, Rees was at the back of the maul to crash over for his brace. Then came three contenders for try of the season. The first by Ellis Bevan followed a turnover near the Blue & Black twenty-two. Morgan Allen spotted space and Jack Maynard sent out a long pass to Iwan Pyrs Jones. His electric pace skinned the Ebbw defence and when the last defender came in for the tackle he offloaded to Bevan to score.
The winger himself was next on the score sheet this time a reverse of the action as Bevan spotted a gap down the blind side and with a beautiful offload sent Pyrs Jones over from half way. The final try again came from a turnover. Allen, who was named Man Of The Match picked the ball picked up the ball from the base of a scrum following a knock on over the Cardiff try line. He powered towards the twenty-two and just as he was about to hit the deck he slipped the ball to Bevan and there was nobody to stop the scrum half from scoring his second.
