Cardiff RFC’s pre-season clash against Ampthill on Friday has been cancelled due to a lack of player availability.
The Cardiff RFC management team have made the decision on the back of insurmountable issues around availability and injuries.
Following last week’s win over Henley Hawks – where a number of trial players were involved – Steve Law’s side will now turn their attention to preparations ahead of the opening Indigo Group Premiership clash against Pontypridd at Sardis Road on Saturday, September 3.
Cardiff Rugby academy manager Gruff Rees said: “Naturally we are disappointed to reach this decision, however we are not comfortable with the idea of making up the numbers by compromising player development and the physical and mental well-being of all our players.
“That has to be our priority and unfortunately a growing list of unavailable players makes this fixture unviable.
“We offer our apologies to Paul Turner and Ampthill for this late decision. We wish them the best for the season ahead and hopefully there will be an opportunity to work together in the future.
“We will now concentrate on preparing for the opening match against Pontypridd in a couple of weeks. On the back of a positive performance against Henley last week – where we appreciated the contributions of a number of external players – we’re looking forward to the new season and to welcome a number of players back into the fold over the coming weeks.”
