George Rosser Evans, born 1867 in Cwmbach, Aberare played as half back for Cardiff from 1887 until 1893. Educated at Llandovery College, Rosser faced the New Zealand Maoris, the first southern hemisphere rugby team, when they lost to the Blue and Blacks in 1888. During his time at Cardiff, he played 52 matches, scoring 16 tries.
His one and only Welsh cap came against Scotland, at Raeburn Place, in the 1889 Home Nations Championship, which Wales won by two tries to nil. Originally selected for the game as a reserve three-quarter there were several withdrawals from the team that resulted in him playing as half-back.
Evans also played for Llandovery College; Penygraig; Ystrad Rhondda; and Llwynypia. In 1989-90 he played for Penygraig in the final of the South Wales Challenge Cup when they defeated Llanelli ‘A’ by 2 tries to nil.
Educated: Bodringallt School, Ystrad; Lewis School, Pengam; Llandovery College he was employed as a colliery clerk.
In 1896, Rosser rescued a man from drowning in dangerous conditions at the confluence of the rivers Wye and Irfon near Builth Wells.
