Rhys Patchell came through the Cardiff Blues Academy and made his debut for Cardiff as a replacement in a friendly against Bedford in August 2011. His first start came a week later in a league game at Llandovery when he kicked 14 points. In all he made 16 appearances for Cardiff and 83 for Cardiff Blues before he made the decision to transfer to Llanelli Scarlets at the end of the 2015 – 6 season. Rhys won his first senior Welsh selection on the tour to Japan in 2013 when he played in both internationals.
