Ray Price was born in 1924 in Blaina and played one game, on the wing, for Cardiff in 1948. Price had been captain of Abertillery before moving north in 1948 to join Belle Vue Rangers. Whilst playing for them, Price played nine times for Great Britain, twice for Wales and twice for ‘Other Nationalities’. In 1953 he moved to Warrington and then in 1957 he was transferred to St Helens for £1500.00. With 113 appearances at Wilderspool it was no surprise that Ray Price was inducted into the Warrington Rugby League Hall of Fame.
In the summer of 1957 Ray went with Great Britain to Australia for the second Rugby League World Cup but he was badly injured in the first warm-up game in Perth and took no further part in the tour. He returned home to Wales and announced his retirement.
On retiring from rugby league he returned home to Blaina and died aged 64 in 1988 after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
