Born in Treherbert in 1892, William Gwyn Thomas played three games for Cardiff in the 1912 – 13 season before joining London Welsh. During the First World War - November 1915 - he played in a game for the Barbarians against South Africa. In 1913, after just a handful of games for London Welsh, he was persuaded to convert to Rugby League and joined Wigan (he later played for Huddersfield) from where he won representative honours with Wales (twice) and Great Britain (nine times) as well as playing for an ‘Other Nationalities’ team against England.
