Andrew Stoddart was a Harlequins player that was loaned to Cardiff for a game against Old Leysians in 1883. A fine cricketer and rugby player he went on to play rugby for Blackheath and England. In 1888 Stoddart was captain of the first British Isles team to tour Australasia when he took over the role from the original captain R L Seddon who tragically died in a boating accident early in the tour. In April 1915 Stoddart, who by this time was working in the Stock exchange, committed suicide.
