Pontypridd 12 Cardiff 26

Cardiff came away from Sardis Rd with a well-deserved win. With a passionate home crowd behind them Ponty were looking to make a good start to the game, that though didn’t happen as the first ten minutes was a scrappy affair with the whistle heard more than the crowd.

Cardiff were first on the board. Having chosen not to go for goal early in the game Dan Fish opened the scoring with a penalty. A few minutes later he had doubled that advantage win another before Ponty got on the board. Sam Parry finding his way over.

Fish extended the lead with another three points before he was involved in both Cardiff tries. The first was from a lineout in the home twenty-two. When the drive was stopped the ball was moved to Fish. He spotted no one home behind the defensive line and a little stab though sat up nicely for Arron Pinches to score.

The second was great vision from the outside half. Cardiff were awarded a penalty in their own half. Fish took it quickly and sent the ball deep into the Ponty twenty-two. With two Cardiff chasers it was a question of who would get there first. Cameron Winnett won the race and touched down. Both were converted.

The second half was a typical local derby. Ponty came back into it when Joel Raikes scored but the Blue & Black defence was up for the challenge and held Ponty out despite several attacks that look like they would yield point. Ben Burnell and his first points for Cardiff late on as the Blue and Blacks celebrated the first league win of the season.
